Lucas is a transportation nerd currently studying Policy, Planning, and Development at the University of Southern California. Before leaving Seattle, he served three terms on the Seattle Youth Commission, one term on the Washington State Legislative Youth Advisory Council, and has held multiple Mayor's Office internships.
Lucas Smith was born in Seattle, Washington, where he resides today. From a young age, Lucas has been infatuated with trains. After formative experiences on his hometown's Waterfront Streetcar and success riding the public bus in late middle school, Lucas developed a passion for public transit. This passion led him to volunteer for 2008's Mass Transit Now campaign, which introduced Lucas to public policy and civic engagement.
Lucas is now deeply involved in Seattle's government and is an outspoken advocate for youth voice and transportation. He served three terms on the Seattle Youth Commission from 2008 to 2011 and in 2010 was appointed to both the Washington State Legislative Youth Advisory Council and Seattle's Transit Master Plan Advisory Group.
At Garfield High School, Lucas was a co-president of Blokus Trigon Club, a frequent actor in the Drama Club's quarterly one acts, and an avid non-SOV commuter.
From August to May, Lucas lives in Los Angeles where he is pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Policy, Planning, and Development at the USC Sol Price School of Public Policy. Conscientiously devoid of a drivers license, Lucas continues to take pride in his city's public transit (did you know Los Angeles has a subway!?) and avoids cars whenever possible.
